Colin Byrne: Every caddie living on borrowed time....

By Caddie Colin Byrne

For those of you who like to tune in for their weekly golf fix on Sunday evening, watching a new champion make some impossible putt to win and unceremoniously hugging his caddie in elation, it can be an extremely uplifting end to the week.

The glory, the success, the prize money and sense of satisfaction are all evident in the final moment of joy. But this is as good as it gets – the reality of what the average bagmen does to earn a living is an entirely less glamorous prospect.

I write this after a long trip to Akron, Ohio for the Bridgestone International. Travel never seems to get any more exotic than a bleary-eyed connection in a major US airport hub and a functional midnight welcome at a nondescript hotel, a stunted sleep and an early tee off.

There is a grinding process of preparation the modern golfer has to go through in his build up to each tournament that can often look like overdiligence.

A Monday practice round with multiple shots hit off tees and into greens. Countless chips and sand shots swatted from every possible position around the putting surfaces to every possible pin position imaginable. In an effort to combat the unknown we all try to pre-empt every possible scenario that could happen under the gun.

So after five hours of a practice round, there could be another practice session on the range, chipping green and putting green. If there was any tinkering to do, the manufacturers have their trucks on site to cater for any adjustments that may be needed.

Sunday Arran 62, 63 cash me 1020 USD and Caddie CaddiePlayerAxel much more...

- 62 from Li Hao Tong to finish third to “Biggest High” dual Spieth to Kuuuu at the British Brikdale...

  - 63 from In-Kyum Kim to win LPGA Marathon Classic under the “Nose” of Lexi, brings Asian Golf to further rise...

As none of my current CaddiePlayers qualify for the British Open, I decided to take a week off to Scotland Arran Island located across the sea from the Scottish Open Dundonlad course where I am back this week for the Ladies Scottish Open.

Arran Island landscape/nature is so far the best “No-man’s-land Friendly” I have experience in my World Travelling and I can only advice any CaddiePlayer or anyone else looking for an inspiration/retreat to have a 7 days Trekking/Biking/Hanging to experiment, the local Shepherd, the 2’50 £ 27 holes putting green, the Red Deer walk way golf course, the Gold Whiskey tasting, the Band Parade “BagPipe” in Castle LochRanza, the unique Catacol Trees next to the 12 Apostles, and much much more all to be seen on my Instagram/Tweeter and Facebook.

On top of that I was lucky to placed 250/1 Li Hao Tong Betfair odds and watch, near by the “La Belle au Bois Dormant” Cottage, the most bizarre 13-hole bogey in Golf History followed by “Phenomenalesque” birdie, eagle, birdie, biride to Earn Jordan Spieth his second Claret Jug!

Irish and Scottish Open #RolexSeries > 1 + 1 = 3 Thx "Ronnie"

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

I have just ended my two weeks #RolexSeries (Irish and Scottish) sharing rooms/diner/travel with "Ronnie" Veteran Caddie on the European Tour.

"The most important point to me is controlling the controlable

and understand that 1+1 can make 3*!"

- Ronnie CaddieOnTOUR -

The top priority when you travel on Tour as a Caddie or Coach is to find the accomodation that match your needs > close to the course, affordable and friendly! So next time you are on your way to Portstewart Golf Club or Dundnoald Links in Irvine I can only recommand you to stay where we stay and I am sure Ken the owner of the Thrones Lodge or Nicolas from the AnnefieldHouse will welcome you with their big smile!

Other than that what I can remember from our two weeks is the MissCuts of Rory, the sudden Rise of the Frenchies > (Hebert and Quesne co-Leading at the Irish and Havret, Pavon, Levy and Wattel shooting 66 during the Scottish) and at last the Spanish domination with Rahm and Cabrera-Bello winning in style.

Until next time, Stéphane CaddiePlayerOnTour
