Exclusive Q&A with Darren Clarke at MenaTour Dubai Creek

Dubai - Mena Tour

After a great week at my home town course Omega European Masters where all our CaddiePlayers made the cut. I am back to the UAE for 10 days private coaching. As soon as I landed in Abu Dhabi airport, I grabbed the local 360Sports paper to find out about the impressive equal world record 9 birdies in a row from promising talented 17 years old Rayhan Thomas! Not only he did it on the Professional Mena Tour but as well pairing with the 2011 British Open Champion Darren Clarke also a Mena Tour Patron.  As I was curious to better understand this stunning strike, I head up to the final round to follow under 40 degrees heat the last 2 holes from Rayhan when he missed a 9 footer to tie the lead and 3 putts the last to loose by 2 shots over South Africa Keyser.

To my great surprise, after the prize giving, Darren Clarke seated  in front of us (about 25) with a beer to start a very personal Q&A 45 minutes in depth with what it takes to be a competitive golfer and more win a British Open. As he started with " I putt like a d... all week" I turn on my phone recorder for the best inside brainer of Darren... Here for you some of his quotes:

  • "The less you concern of the outcome the better you play"
  • "Keeping a diary to write your best shots"
  • "You learn more from defeat than from winning"
  • "You need to go from process to believe to outcome"
  • "Course management and stats act like a guide"
  • "Commit to your caddie/coach"

In conclusion Darren Clarke called the MenaTour a "brillant" Tour to play and learn your way through.

Until next time #IamCaddiePlayerStephane in Dubai.
